If you’ve recently called for an AC repair in Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, or Navarre, you might have noticed a jump in the price of refrigerant. Specifically, the cost of R-410A (the gas that keeps your home cool) has reached record highs this year.
At White Sands Cooling & Heating, we believe in transparency. This “sticker shock” isn’t a random price hike—it’s the result of a major federal transition. As of March 2026, we are fully immersed in the EPA’s mandated shift away from older refrigerants toward more eco-friendly A2L alternatives.
For over 25 years, White Sands has seen HVAC standards evolve, but the 2026 refrigerant phase-out is the most significant yet. Under the AIM Act, the production of R-410A has been slashed. Since new R-410A is no longer being manufactured for new units, the industry now relies on a dwindling supply of reclaimed gas.
As of January 1, 2026, new air conditioning systems can no longer use R-410A. This makes servicing older units a “supply and demand” challenge that drives up repair costs for homeowners.
As a Bryant Factory Authorized Dealer, White Sands is already leading the transition to the new A2L refrigerant standards (like R-454B). These new systems are designed to be:
If your 10-to-15-year-old system has a leak, the “math” of a repair has changed. Investing $700+ into a “recharge” of a vanishing refrigerant might not be the best use of your hard-earned money. Often, that investment is better spent toward a modern, high-efficiency Bryant system that will lower your monthly utility bills and offer years of worry-free cooling.
We don’t want you caught in a “no-cool” emergency in the middle of a Pensacola July. The best way to avoid high repair costs is through our ComfortGuard Maintenance Plan. Regular tune-ups allow our team to catch small leaks before they turn into expensive R-410A refills.
